I feel like I start half my posts with “things will look different this year” but, alas, it’s true. Like everything else the last 10 months Valentine’s Day will be a bit different. The good news is I never did a bunch of stuff outside the home for my kids for Valentine’s Day anyway lol. We’ve always more or less done things together at the house with the exception of sending cards into school. Here are a few fun ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day without having to leave the house!
Bake Heart Shaped Cookies
My kids really don’t need an excuse to make cookies but Valentine’s Day is always fun to do so. You can make homemade cookies or even just buy cut and bake heart themed ones. I’ve also seen some cute decorating kits at the grocery store bakery if you want to skip the baking and just decorate. My kids love using the heart shaped cookie cutters so we will probably do that.
Read Valentine’s Day Books
For little kids it’s fun to grab some little books about Valentine’s Day; I have a fun list of some favorites on the blog. I also like the idea of selecting some books on broader themes such as kindness and being a good friend. I’ve put a list together of some more favorite on my Amazon Storefront.
Wear Special Valentine’s Day Pajamas or Outfits
You guys KNOW I’m all about coordinating outfits for holidays. Carter’s has some really cute options for Valentine’s Day outfits and t-shirts. I’m also a huge fan of the Hanna Andersson PJs for Valentine’s Day.
Make Heart Shaped Pizza
This is one of my favorite traditions with my kids. I cheat and buy the pre-made dough from the grocery store and we make little heart shaped pizzas. We think it’s fun to each have our own pizza and let this kids select and add their own toppings. Some local pizza places will even do heart shaped pizzas if you don’t want to bother with making them.
Have a Movie Night
Movie nights are always a hit with my kids! I plan on picking a movie that focuses on a love or friendship theme for ours. Here are a few ideas:
- Lady and the Tramp
- Enchanted
- The Princess Bride
- Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown
- Beauty and the Beast
Make Fun Crafts
Whether it be homemade cards for friends and neighbors or just a fun fine motor activity, crafts are ALWAYS a fun way to celebrate holidays. You can check out the cute Valentine’s Day Pokemon one I posted on the blog. My kids also enjoy using Kwikstix to make cards and “decorations” for the house.
I hope this post gave you some good ideas to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your little sweethearts. How will you be spending the day? Let me know in the comments!

Such fun ways to celebrate with our closest loves!
I came across a fun idea dubbed a HEART ATTACK. Everyday starting February 1 you write something you love about your kids on a heart-shaped piece of paper and tape it to their door. On Valentine’s Day they get to pull them off and read (the collection of hearts on the door is the ‘heart attack’). I’m going to have the kids do it for each other and I’ll even do it for hubs, though we typically don’t do anything for the day.
