My Favorite Fall Fashion Must Haves

I just love everything about fall: layered outfits, cute flannels, boots, bonfires, crisp air, and ALL the pumpkin things. I can’t wait for the unrelenting heat to break here in Florida. The good news is you don’t have to wait for the temperature to change to enjoy fall outfits. I’m sharing budget friendly pieces that will help transition your wardrobe to fall plus some pieces you can wear NOW even if it’s still hot. All of the pieces fit TTS unless otherwise noted. For size reference I’m 5’4” and wear a 12 in pants and a large in tops.

Swiss Dot Orange Dress For Transitional Outfits

One of the things about living in Florida is seasons change way before the weather actually does. One of my favorite things to do in early fall is wear lighter pieces in autumn colors. This Swiss Dot dress is perfect for that. I can wear it now and still feel like I’m dressing “fall-ish” but not sweat to death. As temperatures cool you can transition it with fun accessories like a denim jacket, cardigan, boots, scarves etc. I’ve showed ways to wear it now, in fall weather, and later in winter.

Now

Fall

To transition the dress to Fall I added a denim jacket and swapped the heels for a pair of Steve Madden booties.

Winter

Once the weather gets cold you can keep this dress in rotation with a cozy cardigan, scarf and knee high boots. Tip: add boot warmers with your dresses to stay warm and avoid exposed skin when it’s freezing.

Shackets

Shackets started trending last year and it doesn’t look like they are going anywhere this fall! I’ve tried literally dozens of shackets and have had the hardest time finding ones I can wear because I’m allergic to wool. I finally found a few on Amazon that worked for me that don’t have any wool. I went with one shacket that’s more traditional fall colors and one that’s pink just for fun.

Gray Denim

Gray jeans are a Fall trend it took me a bit to get on board with. I looked at a BUNCH of them and just couldn’t find the right pair. Enter this Democracy pair! These are the same “ab-solution” technology waist band that I love about this brand in an updated and trendy color. I used them in a lot of the outfits in this post to show how versatile they are but also wanted to do an outfit that let them shine on their own.

Bootcut and Flare Jeans

Wider leg jeans have been having a moment for awhile now but I’m really loving bootcut and flare styles right now. They have the updated look of a wider jean but I think they are more flattering and easier for mature women to style than a true wide leg jean. (If you want to see wide leg styling ideas you can checkout my post). This Signature Levi’s bootcut might be the absolute perfect pair. Not only are they budget-friendly but they are also very size inclusive coming in sizes 2-28. The fit is absolutely fantastic in these.

Plaid Blazer

I love the Dark Academia Aesthetic. Maybe it’s because in my prior life I taught college. One of the things I’m loving right now is a blazer worn casually. I updated my look with a double breasted style. Plaid and tweed are both great options that are very on trend. This is actually the exact outfit above with the bootcut jeans with the blazer added to transition it to cooler fall days.

Saturated Colors

Bright, saturated colors aren’t what I usually think of for fall but they are very on trend right now! My favorite bright hue right now is Kelly green and I thought this cardigan was a great fall piece to bring the color into my wardrobe in a functional way.  I like that it can be paired with jeans, dresses, trousers etc making it super versatile and it’s an affordable Amazon find.

Lavender

Another trend that was a bit surprising was lavender for fall. I love the color so I’m not mad about and totally am leaning into it. I already had one of these lace sleeve tops and thought it would be beautiful in lavender so I ordered one. I think it’s just perfection with the gray jeans.

Much like this whole year, Fall 2021 is shaping up to be full of surprises. While we didn’t get the return to normalcy we were hoping for, I am glad to see some return to fashion trends other than athleisure wear. The bright colors mixed in with more traditional autumn hues make for surprising and interesting outfits. Which trend are you most excited to try? Let me know in the comments.
