K (4) is doing awesome with counting but I realized the other day that he doesn’t actually recognize Arabic Numerals yet. I remember D doing something like this in Kindergarten so I put one together to work with K on numbers.
The set up is pretty simple:
- Print out the free pages here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1P8RXD9wa3pkD-WpoxyglgwI1v6I7WdgA/view?usp=sharing
- Cut out the numbers on page 2
- OPTIONAL: laminate main page and number cards. I use this laminator.
- Place the main page, number cards, blocks, and objects on a flat surface.
For blocks I like these ones from Learning Resources but you can also use regular wooden blocks:
For counters you can use any small object but my kids enjoy snacks like Goldfish, Cheerios, or M&Ms.
When he flips the card I have him say the number out loud. Then count as he builds the tower and “makes” the number out of small objects (like Goldfish).
If you use food as you counters it’s a fun game to combine with snack time which is what I’ve been doing with K. He eats his way through numbers 1-10 lol.
Look forward to trying this with my class!
